Among the challenges that Rubicon faced in executing a cloud-to-cloud migration were updating its architecture and implementing a tiered security structure for internal use. Lacking internal resources to execute the move, the company partnered with Rackspace Technology.

Its Rackspace Technology team performed a wide range of sophisticated steps to make the migration process fast and efficient, including:

• Designed an AWS-optimized architecture for Rubicon’s applications
• Migrated object data and databases without downtime
• Moved a large volume of data from Azure Blob storage to Amazon S3
• Migrated large databases in real time to allow proactive cutover
• Created a process for testing applications in separate environments before deploying to production
• Maintained existing authentication abilities
• Created a way to easily revert to prior versions of deployed applications when needed
• Develop a deployment pipeline that allowed one-click promotions to production, while ensuring environment integrity
• Integrate VPN and remote access solutions with Rubicon’s existing infrastructure and expand it to seamlessly support access control in the AWS environment
• Streamline tiered access to testing and promotion to production for remote staff

Rubicon’s new cloud infrastructure uses AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure automation and AWS Elastic Beanstalk for configuration management and easy application deployments.
