Learn about the development and launch of the Fanatical Leadership Academy, a fully in-house initiative powered by Rackspace University to empower leaders at every level.
One of the great things about Rackspace Technology is our emphasis on culture and training. And in many ways, Rackspace University plays into both those aspects with a foundational belief that education and personal growth drive success for Rackers and Rackspace as a whole. Even as we navigate one of the busiest periods in our history, Rackspace continues to show an unwavering commitment to learning and development.
One of our most noteworthy achievements this past year was the creation and launch of the Fanatical Leadership Academy, a fully in-house initiative powered by Rackspace University and designed to develop leaders at every level. As Robin Barbacane, VP of Talent Development at Rackspace Technology explains, “The Fanatical Leadership Academy is more than just a program; it’s a movement that has ignited the future of learning at Rackspace Technology.”
The Academy currently serves 59% of leaders across Rackspace Technology, from newly appointed team leads to senior executives, providing an inclusive space for open dialogue, shared experiences and collaborative learning.
This program spotlights the exceptional talent across Rackspace Technology and reinforces the company’s core values. Through their participation in workshops, participants develop leadership skills rooted in the pursuit of excellence, customer-driven collaboration, expertise, agility and compassion. These interactive workshops foster trust and a vibrant exchange of perspectives, all while providing leaders with the tools needed to tackle challenges and drive success.
Rackspace CFO Mark Marino piloted the program, demonstrating his commitment to leadership development. Seeing its value, he extended it to his entire leadership team, laying the foundation for broader organizational impact. "I was happy to provide this opportunity to our CFO Group Leaders, because leadership development isn’t just about growing great leaders — it’s about empowering our Rackers to take ownership of their careers,” Marino said. “By investing in this training, we’re equipping current and future leaders with the skills and mindset to lead with confidence while reinforcing that professional growth starts with personal initiative.”
The Academy has already earned outside recognition, securing a nomination as one of the top-three finalists for the HR.com award for Best Leadership Development Program — a testament to the dedication and creativity of the team that built it from the ground up. By developing leaders at every level, the program reinforces the organization’s belief that strong leadership is essential for its transformational journey. With an impressive internal NPS of 87, the Academy is making a measurable impact across the business.
The Academy also spotlights the remarkable talent and potential within Rackspace. It underscores how leaders are shaping the future of Rackspace Technology today while setting a standard of excellence that can resonate throughout the industry. By creating opportunities for growth and connection, the Academy enables each leader to discover new ways to contribute meaningfully to the company’s collective success and sustained progress.
